When Can I Bring My Patio Furniture Out of Winter Storage?

Are you sick of cool weather and are you dreaming of sitting outside in the sunshine? If so, you are probably wondering, “When can I bring my patio furniture out of winter storage?” If you have ever been faked out by an early period of Spring-like weather, only to wake up one morning to find your patio furniture covered with a dusting of snow, you know how disappointing that is. It turns out that there are a few tips and tricks that will help you get that patio furniture ready to go so that the first sunny day will find you basking in your porch rocker or enjoying a beverage in your outdoor living area.

Average Temperature in Appleton, WI

By mid-April, our average daily high temperature in Appleton, WI hovers around 60 degrees, sometimes higher. There isn’t a hard and fast rule as to when you should break out the front porch rockers and the patio set. Those of us who crave getting back to outdoor living often optimistically bring our patio furniture out of winter storage in April, albeit with a few precautions.

Patio Heaters

If the outside temperature isn’t conducive to comfortable lounging outdoors just yet, one or more patio heaters could turn that situation around. Patio heaters come in a variety of styles and sizes and can make it possible for you to bring your patio furniture out of winter storage and start enjoying it earlier than you could otherwise. Fire pits are another nice option that permits outdoor gatherings before the weather is in full-blown spring mode.

Blankets and Pillows

By tossing a few cozy blankets and pillows on your patio furniture, you will find that you can comfortably enjoy your outside space in the early spring. Add some outdoor lighting to make the area even cozier. Cuddle up on your cushioned outdoor sofa or chair with a warm blanket around your shoulders and you will forget the temperature is only in the low 60s. A mug of your favorite warm beverage helps banish the chill as well.

Have Your Furniture Covers Handy

In spite of all the optimism in the world, sudden changes in the weather are common in our area. If you bring your patio furniture out of winter storage in early to mid-spring, you could experience an unwelcome rain or snow storm. If you have sturdy patio furniture covers, keep them handy to throw over your outdoor pieces to protect them from the weather. Be sure to put all cushions and pillows inside out of the weather. Applying a fabric protector to your outside furniture cushions is a brilliant way to keep your patio furniture looking great in case of a sudden storm.

If you have a covered patio you could easily bring your outdoor furniture out in early spring. With the addition of patio heaters, you could sit outside comfortably when the temperature is below 60. On the other hand, if your outside area is not protected, you can still bring your patio furniture out of storage in early spring as long as you provide cozy blankets and pillows. Gathering around a fire pit on a chilly spring evening is one of life’s great pleasures. Whether your patio is protected or out in the open, do keep your furniture covers handy in case of a sudden change in weather.
